We are a total service, outdoor art consulting and resource company designed to work with artists, designers, owners, and agencies. We believe more companies, developers, institutions, municipalities and individuals would acquire outdoor art if the process was simple, all inclusive, and a fundamental confidence in the outcome could be achieved.

Our Goal

Sculpture in the Landscape endeavors to increase both the quality and the quantity of outdoor art and to ensure that it flourishes in just the right space. In doing so, Sculpture in the Landscape enhances the art, its surroundings and the lives of all who experience each Sculpture in the Landscape.

About the owner

Jim Davis

Jim Davis is founder and president of Sculpture in the Landscape, a NC based firm dedicated to simplifying the process of finding and procuring outdoor art while helping increase both the quality and quantity of the total outdoor art experience.  Since 2008, Jim has enjoyed incorporating his skills as a landscape architect with outdoor art by working closely with artists, designers, developers, art councils, municipalities, and corporations as a consultant and in identifying and placing outdoor art.   


Jim was a longtime volunteer and past Board Member of Cary Visual Art, Inc. a non-profit organization in Cary, NC which has placed over 50 permanent pieces of sculpture worth in excess of one million dollars.  Jim was instrumental in forming CVA’s Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit and served as chair from 2006 until 2017. Through this nationally known venue, Jim  worked with artists from 17 states and helped place over 100 pieces of sculpture to their best advantage throughout downtown Cary for this annual event.   


Through Sculpture in the Landscape, Jim has placed work in Virginia as well as North Carolina.   In Knightdale, NC Jim arranged and directed a commissioned roundabout sculpture for a well known developer.  He has worked with the City of Goldsboro, NC since 2015 in placing sculpture in their Downtown Streetscape Project and helped initiate Fayetteville’s outdoor sculpture exhibit, Work in Progress in 2016.  Jim is currently working with  the Town of Clayton, NC with their annual Clayton Sculpture Trail.


Jim served as juror for the 2016-2017 City of North Charleston National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition.  


With a degree in Environmental Design, Jim has almost 50 years of experience in outdoor aesthetics. He was previously registered to practice landscape architecture in the states of Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, and Illinois as well as his native state of North Carolina.  Jim now proudly enjoys the status of Landscape Architect Emeritus.
